Most of the time, a tooth that gets damaged due to tooth decay or dental trauma may need to get crowned to restore its function. A crown acts as a covering or cap customized according to your tooth's shape to fit perfectly. It is usually fabricated in a dental lab. Still, advanced technology has come up with a very convenient alternative with same-day crowns made in the comforts of the dental practice.
At Sun Park Dental, we use CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) to create high-grade crowns in just a few minutes. This means getting your crowns placed, and you don't have to make two or three dental appointments. Instead, just get it done in a day. The same-day crowns fabricated using this technology look precisely like your tooth, which means no one will know you got your tooth restored.
Getting a dental crown begins just like having a traditional crown placed, i.e., the "preparation" of the tooth. Our dentist will remove any decay inside the tooth, then clean and shape it using a dental drill.
The next step is wholly different from getting a traditional crown. We will put a light dusting of reflective powder and take digital pictures of your mouth with the help of a small scanning wand. Then, the computer will create a precise 3D model image of your teeth.
Then comes the CAD/CAM software role, which helps design your crown. After that, we choose the dental ceramic material that matches the color of your teeth, and then the milling machine uses the digital design to carve the crown. After fabrication, we will check its fit, make aesthetic enhancements to the crown's surface, and bond it to your tooth.
